A new feature for this years tasting and not to be missed. We have scheduled 3 tutored wine tastings that aim to bring to life topics with a story to tell. Please note, places for these tastings are limited so contact Tina at Hunt and Coady today should you want to attend (tina@huntandcoady.com).
This session is particularly pertinent as at the event we will be revealing the results of an in-depth piece of consumer research into Torrontes, conducted in conjunction with Wine Intelligence.
After hearing about the results of this study, Sarah Jane will begin a comprehensive tasting of Torrontes from throughout Argentina – touching on the different regional styles from Salta to Mendoza, plus delving into the possibilities beyond typical still wines with a look at what can be achieved with sweet and sparking variations.
Furthermore, we will be pairing each wine with a sample of what food matches work particularly well. You will see that Torrontes can be the perfect partner for a variety of the UK’s favorite foods.
Pater is an expert in Argentina’s wines, having judged his way through several hundred at the 2009 Argentina Wine Awards. During this time he became particularly attached to the many red blends on offer, and we think you will too.
Argentine winemakers have blending in their blood. It was initially learnt as a necessity in order to deal with the potentially harvest threatening hail storms Mendoza often sees during harvest time – if one area was damaged it mean’t the skillful blending of more from another sub-region. However over time they realised that this produced more interesting wines (most single varietal Malbec’s are actually a blend from various regions).
Today we see these skills honed in what we consider to be some truly world beating multi variety blends, a selection of which you will be able to try in this session.
Argentina has some world beating Fairtrade projects, creating some equally world beating wines.
In this session the 4 Fairtrade producers on show at the event – La Riojana Co-Op, Mendoza Vineyards, Finca La Celia and Finca Monteflores, will be discussing their projects and the importance of them to the local communities they work with. They will also be illustrating that Fairtrade can also mean top quality, with a tasting of some of their latest vintages.
If you’re in a hurry and just want a quick snapshot of some of the many faces of Argentine Wine, why not check out our Winemakers choice satellite table. This year we will have just one table, with the only stipulation being that wines must retail for less than £20 in the UK.
The list promises to provide an fascinating window on what our winemakers themselves are most proud of and why.
